Because everything we do at AstraZeneca aims to improve health and help people, community outreach is a big part of our company culture. In 2006, AstraZeneca US contributed $55.7 million in monetary contributions to charitable organizations across the country, and an additional $10 million in sponsorships. 61% of the company’s monetary donations in 2006 were earmarked for organizations that work directly with patients. Through patient assistance programs, environmental efforts, volunteerism and other community involvement, we make sure AstraZeneca has a positive effect on the world around us.
AZ&MeTM Prescription Savings Programs. At AstraZeneca, we know our responsibility goes beyond making medicines. We need to make our medicines available to people who cannot afford them, and we have a long-term commitment to helping those in need. For nearly three decades, AstraZeneca has provided our products free of charge to those patients most in need.
During the past five years alone, we have provided more than $2.5 billion in savings to patients without drug coverage throughout the US and Puerto Rico. We understand that one program does not fit all situations, so we have a number of different programs to help meet people’s different needs. Our programs also provide one-on-one education and information designed to help individuals identify and access health and medicine coverage and services for which they may be eligible.
Those who qualify for AZ&MeTM Prescription Savings for people without insurance can receive up to a 90-day supply of AstraZeneca medicine, free of chMearge, delivered directly to their home.
In addition, AZ&MeTM Prescription Savings for people in Medicare Part D provides significant savings to qualifying people who are enrolled in Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage plans and are having difficulty affording their AstraZeneca medicines.
Our AZ&MeTM Prescription Savings program for healthcare facilities provides medicines free of charge to community free clinics, community health centers and hospitals that serve the uninsured.
We even participate in other programs, like The Partnership for Prescription Assistance, to help provide medicines – whether or not we make them – to people in need. More information about our AZ&TM Prescription Savings Programs is available at www.AZandMe.com
Local Health Initiatives. We support the health of the global community, but we pay special attention to the one in our backyard. Based in Wilmington, DE, we’re proud supporters of the Healthy Delawarean program. We also work directly with the state of Delaware to provide medications to uninsured children and families in need.
AstraZeneca is one of Delaware’s biggest employers. We firmly believe that it’s our responsibility to do more than make medicine. Each year we contribute generously to charitable organizations focused on health, disability, seniors, science and math education, families, women, children, youth development, community services and the arts.
Supporting Health Organizations & Initiatives. AstraZeneca participates in our communities and helps make them better. Our representatives take part in activities across the country to promote health and community, such as the Real Men Cook Foundation’s annual prostate cancer and cardiovascular screening event in Los Angeles, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), C.A.R.E. (Consumers Advocating Recovery through Empowerment - a peer-based support program for people with mental illness to which AstraZeneca gave a $5.75 million grant), the community-outreach program My Medicare Matters and many more. In 2007, we broke ground on the AstraZeneca Home Lodge Center in Boston. Partnering with the American Cancer Society, the center will provide free housing and support services to cancer patients and their families who must travel far from home to receive treatment.
Our representatives around the country frequently participate in local initiatives, such as the St. Louis Get Hooked on Health Expo, the March of Dimes Walk-a-thon, the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women events and more.
